Battle Creek is a city in Calhoun County, Michigan. Battle Creek is situated on the historic U.S. 12 route, largely replaced in Michigan by Interstate 94. Battle Creek (pop: 53,364), a metro of about 140,000, is famous for...get this...cereal. The Kellogg Company was founded and headquartered in Battle Creek while the downtown has a vibrant core.
It is also the home of Post Cereals, which was part of General Foods Corporation and is now part of Kraft Foods. In addition to cereal, Battle Creek companies manufacture chewing gum, cookies, packaging machinery, compressors, lighting, air conditioning, and interior components for automotive companies. Cereal City USA, the Binder Park Zoo, and the Sojourner Truth Monument are key attractions in the Battle Creek area.
Battle Creek is served by Kalamazoo's Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport.
Battle Creek has over 7,000 acres of parks and forests in and around the city creating a recreational paradise. Among the most popular are Binder Park, the largest city-owned park in the state of Michigan; Linear Park, a pathway that winds around the city; Willard Park, with waterfront activities; and Bailey Park, home of the Michigan Battle Cats.
Battle Creek is an international city in terms of industry and tourism. Battle Creek is home to the World's Longest Breakfast Table, the Stan Musial Amateur Baseball World Series, the International Festival of Lights and ZooLights Festival, Full Blast, Kellogg's Cereal City USA (summer 98), the Team U.S. National Hot Air Balloon Championship and Air Show, and the International Summerfest. Battle Creek boasts a Foreign Trade Zone and Customs Port of Entry along with a variety of companies from Japan, Germany, Denmark, and more located in the Industrial Park.
The annual Cereal City Festival is held in June.
